5 LESSONS THE CHURCH CAN LEARN FROM FACEBOOK (LESSON #5)

If you look at the Facebook “F” it looks like a Christian cross with the top bent over. This got me thinking about how FB out churches the church in several things and thought we could learn from them.
Facebook Lesson #1: It is all about the life of the participants and not the CEO.
Facebook Lesson #3: The Facebook community does not have business hours.
Facebook Lesson #4: The Facebook community is eager to share life with one another.
Facebook Lesson #5: Facebook culture encourages the
expression of a person’s passion.
There
is a group for everything on FB. If you have a passion for yellow labs, there
is a group for that. If you like Christian science fiction, there is a group
for that. There is a group for every conceivable passion and people are
encouraged to share their passion with the world.
What the church can
learn from this:
The
Church can be very narrow on what it deems as acceptable passion. Many times if
there is not an obvious connection to the cross it is dismissed as worldly or
unimportant. The Church needs to learn that passion entrusted to God can be the
“common ground” to lead to eternal conversations (see Jesus’ conversation with
the woman at the well). If we live authentic lives our abundance in Christ (if
it is real) will pour through whatever our interests are.
Tangible
expression of Facebook Lesson #5:
The Church needs to commission people to live out their passions. To live life out loud and publically in front of the world proclaiming in spirit and attitude the abundance we have in Christ.
